The 1973 coup and the institutional model of the University of Chile
Abstract
Fifty years ago, at the time of the coup d'état, the University of Chile was creating and developing an innovative and pioneering university model, centered on a balance between research and professional training, and supported by a co-governance of academics, students and non-academic staff. Its implementation by the Department of Psychology evidences the promising sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness of this model. The objective of this essay is to offer a brief and limited analytical and testimonial evaluation of the essential aspects of this new university model, based on the relative share of participation and protagonist experience of the author in the process of creation and development of the Department of Psychology, and the implementation of this innovative university model within the framework of the so-called "Project 68".
