The research was conducted from a historical-cultural perspective, using a qualitative approach. The instruments used were a conversation circle with children and a field diary. Two groups of children participated: the first group comprised children attending the 5th and/or 6th grades at local basic schools, while the second group included children attending the 7th and/or 8th grade at schools outside their community. The study revealed a generally positive view of the schooling process among rural children, with education being seen as a means of personal growth. However, it also highlighted the emotional distress experienced by these children due to the early and often painful separation from their families in pursuit of better educational opportunities.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/76498 Forty-two years of Psychology at Universidad de La Frontera 2024-10-30T20:49:10+00:00 Lucio Rehbein Felmer lucio.rehbein@ufrontera.cl
For several decades, the training of psychologists in Chile was limited to the two largest universities in the country, located in Santiago; namely, the University of Chile, and the Catholic University of Chile. Along with highlighting the keynotes that marked the development of the different training programs in Psychology at UFRO, the author identifies the main avenues through which the disciplinary and professional contributions of psychologist staged at UFRO, have set the tone and impacted the regional and national reality, in the spirit of contributing to the well-being and better decision-making of people, in different areas of their lives.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/79191 Epistemological Foundations in the Beginnings of Psychology in Copiapó, Chile 2025-07-04T14:06:22+00:00 Ricardo Alex Jorquera Gutiérrez ricardo.jorquera@uda.cl Carlos Escobar-Campusano carlos.escobar.20@alumnos.uda.cl Camila Carrizo-Reinuaba camilandreacarrizo@gmail.com David Morales-Parada david.morales@uda.cl Francisco Vigorena-Mendieta francisco.vigorena@uda.cl Sergio Muranda-Julio ps.sgjmuranda@gmail.com
The present study sought to identify the epistemological bases present in the beginnings of psychology in Copiapó, Chile, at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth. Historical research was carried out that included the review of bibliographic sources and their descriptive-interpretative analysis. The results show the influence of the educational model of the Berlin School and how the positivism of Auguste Comte was decisive in the formation of psychology in Chile. Key figures such as Valentín Letelier, Juan Serapio Lois and Rómulo Peña Maturana played a crucial role in this process. The adoption of these philosophical models and currents not only modernized the education of the time in Chile but also influenced the establishment of the initial epistemological bases of psychology as a scientific discipline.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/77870 The Silenced voices. The experience of women in gestational and neonatal grief 2025-04-15T16:10:10+00:00 Luís Felipe Ribeiro Vieira luisfrv92@gmail.com Camile Martins Studart camilestudart@gmail.com Marina Aparecida da Silva Lins Borges marinalinsborges@outlook.com Cynthia de Freitas Melo cf.melo@yahoo.com.br
The present study aimed to understand the experience of mourning of women who went through gestational or neonatal loss, to be able to offer guidance subsidies for care interventions and public policies. A qualitative and exploratory research was carried out, with the participation of 40 participants, in Brazil, who responded to a script of semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using IRaMuTeQ software (word cloud and descending hierarchical classification) and understood through content analysis. The results were organized into four thematic classes: 1) “Risks, Exams and Pregnancy Beyond Expectation”, presenting the complications in pregnancy and/or risk delivery that culminated in the loss of the baby; 2) “Hospital Memories: Life, Struggle and Farewell”, signaling the hospital experiences and the importance of professional support and network; 3) “From Dream to Longing”, exposing the pain of loss, the feeling of loneliness and the role of faith in coping; and 4) “Challenges of Bereavement”, reflecting on the process and supports to deal with pain. It is concluded that the experience of mourning for the loss of a baby is unique and the breaking of silence, with better professional support and collaboration of a support network can help the bereaved.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/71405 Evaluation of an Emotional Intelligence online training for the work setting 2025-04-15T15:41:02+00:00 Isaias Peixoto isaiaspeixotodsn@gmail.com Orjana de Oliveira Pacheco orjanapacheco@gmail.com Lívia Campos Balog livia.gcb@gmail.com Ramon Marin rm.ramonmarin@gmail.com Monalisa Muniz monamuniz@gmail.com Patrícia Waltz Schelini pws@ufscar.br
Emotional Intelligence (EI) training has shown enhancements in the relationships among employees, as well as an increase in companies’ productivity. However, interventions that may achieve a great number of workers with a low cost, and that enable flexible schedules are still a challenge. This research aimed to evaluate an EI online training in an automotive technology industry. The training sample was composed of 39 employees. The participants were divided into two groups, G1 (22) and G2 (17). Both groups were assessed, then G1 received the training while G2 was kept on hold. Next, one more assessment was carried out with both groups. The training was performed with G2 and G1 was kept on hold. Finally, one more assessment was carried out with both groups. Overall, improvements were found in the EI measurements for the areas related to emotional self-awareness. The EI subarea that was most affected by the training was the one of self-awareness; self-assessment of emotions regulation in others; and high potency emotions regulation. In addition, the EI self-perception score for G1 was maintained after twenty days of training. The impact of training in the work context discussed.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/77399 Daily mobility in a segregated city: the experience of crossing Santiago in public transport 2025-04-15T16:09:18+00:00 María Soledad Ruiz Jabbaz marruiz@uchile.cl Danilo Esteban Sanhueza Órdenes danilosanhueza@u.uchile.cl Patricio Ignacio Caviedes Núñez pat.caviedes@gmail.com José Francisco González Peña jose.gonzalez.pena@uchile.cl Matías Alejandro San-Martín González matiassanmartin2@gmail.com
This article presents a study on the experience of daily mobility in public transport in Santiago of workers residing in socioeconomically segregated peripheral areas, and whose jobs are located in the eastern and wealthier areas of the city. Semi-structured interviews were carried out under a qualitative approach. Analysis was conducted through the open coding method of the Grounded Theory. The sample consisted of eigth workers. Gender and occupation were varied. The results show great subjective discomfort experienced by the participants. This is associated to the transport system conditions and the urban environment, such as high concentration of passengers, eventual violent or humiliating situations, or the loss of agency over one’s own body. These conditions contribute to the formation of affective atmospheres of stress and irritation, as well as social imaginaries of other passengers marked by indifference, hostility or fear. This experience negatively affects the possibility of experiencing and appropriating the city as a welcoming and friendly space, thus reinforcing the experience of urban segregation.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/72085 Reverberations of social media use on conjugality: scoping review 2025-03-24T12:54:42+00:00 Marina Zanella Delatorre marina_mzd@yahoo.com.br Crístofer Batista da Costa cristoferbatistadacosta@gmail.com
Social media has been increasingly incorporated into everyday life, and the interference of excessive use of these technologies is being investigated to assess the impact they have on interpersonal relationships. In this way, the objective was to understand how the use of social media reverberates in the relationships of couples who experience a stable marital regime. The searches in the PsycInfo, Web of Science, LILACS, SciELO and PePSIC databases, returning 328 articles, of which 23 were included in the review. The clustering of results led to four main themes: positive and negative aspects of media use, infidelity, jealousy and surveillance, media addiction or excessive use and online and offline relationships. It was observed that the reverberation of social media in couple relationships involve specific features of the type of media used, individual aspects of the partners, and relational factors, such as the structure (boundaries and rules) and the dynamic processes of the marital relationship.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/71093 Validation of a scale to evaluate smartphone addiction 2023-06-21T21:48:56+00:00 Rosa Isela Ruiz García isela.ruiz@iztacala.unam.mx David E. Among the most vulnerable population is the university population. Despite the exponential growth of cell phone use, in Mexico, there are few investigations and instruments explore whether the use is addictive or recreational. The objective of this work was to evaluate the validity and reliability of an instrument with the ability to measure addiction to smartphones. The instrument was applied to 207 students from National Autonomous University of Mexico. To assess the validity of the content, it was submitted to the evaluation of four expert judges. Construct validity was obtained by exploratory factor analysis with maximum likelihood extraction and oblique rotation. In addition, 0.919 was obtained in the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, and a chi-square value of3221.964, gl 378, statistically significant (p<0.001). The degree of reliability was analyzed with a Cronbach’s Alpha, obtaining a coefficient of0.927, which showed a high internal consistency. It is concluded that the psychometric properties of the instrument are adequate to evaluate the university population.
2025-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Revista de Psicología https://revistapsicologia.uchile.cl/index.php/RDP/article/view/80081 Review of Plural Childhood: Challenges for Rethinking Contemporary Childhood 2025-07-30T18:14:29+00:00 Yuliet Cruz Martínez ycruzm@docente.uss.cl
