Abstract

The Roman dictatorship has been the subject of several studies and research that have centered primarily on its characteristics as magistrature, and how it should be approached to serve as historical background to the current debates on excepctional powers and states of emergency. Still, on the topic about its disappearance, attention has traditionally focused on the dictatorships of Sulla and Caesar, leaving aside the fact that we have sources at our diposition that tell us about one of the few cases in Roman political history in wich a magistrature have been formally abolished by law.
