Abstract

This article indicates that the separation of Policia de Investigaciones de Chile from Carabineros de Chile derived from the doctrinal differences and internal conflicts which caused tensions around the understanding of the procedures and how to carry them out. In this sense, it is proposed that the repressive character was the premise that replaced the scientific discourse which had its breaking point in 1932 with the murder of Luis Mesa and Manuel Anabalón, constituting the beginning of the police reform.
