Abstract

The traumatic Spanish post-war did not start in a brilliant way with regard to architecture. Among the professionals, a classical and academic style prevailed for the most part of them. It was far from international currents in the first decade of that post-war. However, in a second, there was a decided turn towards contemporaneity. So that, some works from those years are recognized as essential for the change of direction in the language and the progressive approach to the encounter with modernity. They were the competition winners, but they were accompanied by other equally interesting projects that have been forgotten. The article focuses on two popular competitions: Casa Sindical and Pabellón de los Hexágonos (Brussels Expo 58). The documentation on these is reduced, but the competitions are documented in one of the most important media of the time: Arquitectura magazine, edited by the Architects Association of Madrid. This same magazine was known for almost two decades (since the end of the civil war Spanish) as Revista Nacional de Arquitectura, until it recovered its old name in 1958.
